It is with deep regret and sorrow I announce the death of our friend and fellow author, Carol Wills 02/05/2014

It is with a leadened heart that I am announcing the passing of our dear, dear friend and UK Administrator, Carol Wills.

I first met Carol four years ago on a website called BookRix.com. It was a site dedicated to authors helping authors navigate the new environment of indie publishing. She was always willing to teach or lend a hand to budding authors. When I was asked to join the children's charity group, The Peacock Writers, she was there alongside me and my fellow BR authors as we created a groups dedicated to helping in need and at risk children. Carol put in many hours helping to set up this website, editing the contents of each book, and being our IT 'go to gal.'

She has been an integral part of my life as a writer/author and mentor.

Her main character, Titus the Blue Tit, has had many adventures and the illustrations were done in a fun and whimsical manner, colorful and clear to the details of the stories she wrote. You can still find her stories online on amazon and other fine retailers, for now. Please purchase your copies before they are removed, your children will adore them!

We will miss you, Carol. Rest in Peace…

It is a New Year and we are getting Busy! by Gwenna D'Young

2014 is now underway and the Peacocks are busy on our next book! The next in our series will be for the Spring Season and by about a tough subject matter, one we hope to bring to you in a caring and supportive way.

As you know, Bullying is at its highest in American Schools and across the world. The many articles and news flashes regarding this in the past two years are horrifying and multiplied easily due to the Social Media access now readily available to our youth.

Several of our writers have experience first hand the destructive force of what used to be considered just 'part of growing up.'  Others have family members who have recently been severely bullied, thus we feel it is imperative that we also tackle this hard to discuss subject matter.

So watch for our next title: Springtime Bullies available in early spring 2014!

As always, our books are available for fundraisers or even Book Signings if an author is available! We have authors in Canada, United States and England and all proceeds go directly to fund children's charities!

Lenora Rodgers Raises Funds for Charity

An interview with Tanya Thomas, Director for the Springhaven Domestic Violence Program:
Picture
1.       How did you hear about the Peacock Writers? I was introduced to the Peacock Writers through Lenora Rodgers after she visited SpringHaven Domestic Violence Shelter while doing a service project with another group of very special women.

2.       What do you think about the concept of the Peacocks and their books for Children's Charities? I absolutely love the concept, the entire idea of all the books and after going to the web-site, I was more intrigued.

3.       What so you think of the book, "Faeries, Pixies and Dragons, Oh My!"
The writing was wonderful and after only knowing the title of the last book I wanted to know what was going on inside.  The illustrations were also good.

4.       Would you use the Peacocks and their books for any more fund raising events?  I would absolutely consider being involved in any way that I could with the Peacock Writers, it would not have to be a fundraiser.  I’m hooked!

5.       Please tell us about your charity and where someone may make a donation. SpringHaven Domestic Violence Program is the only State-Certified Shelter/Program for eight counties.  We serve our victims and their children in many different capacities.  The women and children actually live here at the shelter while trying to decide what path their lives may take next.  We also have offices and Victim Advocates in our other 7 counties that attend court with the victim to assist in many other ways.  Here at the shelter the children have their own Child Advocate who works with them one on one and also has groups 5-6 times a week while their moms are attending their own groups. The Child Advocate provides parenting skills for the moms and teaches the children that hands are not for hitting but for hugging and more appropriate things.

6.       Who will be using the books? The Child Advocate received the books first and liked them a lot.  The children always notice new things in the playroom especially on the book racks, so they will get used quite often.

7.       Of course you can post our information: Our website is www.springhaven@springhaveninc.org, where an individual can donate through PayPal.  Our mailing address is : SpringHaven P.O. Box 2047 Elizabethtown, Kentucky 42702

Thank you so much for all the attention, but most of all for your dedication to children who need a smile and a giggle from a funny book.  Children who come to shelter are often very confused about so many things and it is heart-warming to know that there are groups who care just about them.

Respectfully,

Tanya Thomas

Executive Director
