“Shadow is so bossy since Mandy put him in charge,” grumbled Peaches, the Cock-a-poo.
“He’s nervous, Peaches. He’s still learning how to lead instead of pushing,” Sophitia murmured.
Sophitia, was the largest dog in the pack, her mom a Husky and her dad a German Shepard, and she looked like a wolf. Many people were afraid of her, but she was afraid of most people too. Beaten when a puppy, and while she trusted her family, she still had fear of being bullied.
“Is the new Dragon family visiting or are they moving to Nixietown,” Horace the Beagle mix asked.
“I’m sure Shadow said they were moving here. I think it had something to do with the youngster being bullied… Heard it was bad,” growled Oscar. Some people were afraid of Oscar because he had Pitt Bull in his family tree. “We are all here waiting by the door for you, Shadow. Mandy and the others said to give their regards. They were up on night duty. They went to bed.”
As the pack walked towards Nixietown, they heard music.
“What did I tell you all? Sounds like the parade has already started,” sighed Shadow. “I promised Otto we’d be on time.”
“That music sounds like they are practicing, not marching,” said Sophitia “If we’re late, Flora’s dad would understand. Sometimes it does seem like ‘herding feathers’ with everyone running and playing. They’re still pups and like to play.”
When Flora and her family had moved into the glen on the other side of the north fence, she was not allowed friends because her family had experienced much prejudice. Her dad, Otto was cautious and did not trust humans, but over the seasons, Otto had grown to trust the pack and with the family they lived.
Nixietown had grown, becoming known as a sanctuary for those in need of justice, and fairness in their lives. The Naga family was moving into Nixietown and all were on hand for the Pageant to see them march into town and, a play showing their trouble with bullies.
