BECOME A PEACOCK!
Are you interested in becoming a Peacock Writer?
Please go to www.Bookrix.com. You will need to create a free account. Read the following Free Stories / Poetry to understand the type of writing we are looking for in our books. You can also use the title as your direct Link:
Digging Bones by Paula Shene
Christmas Eve by Gwenna D'Young
Surfin' Santa by Gwenna D'Young
A Fairy Long Night by Lenora Rodgers
Then read the submission guidelines and submit your prose via the comment box below. Fill in all the boxes, and we will advise you if your submission meets our guidelines promptly (please give us two weeks as several people will be reviewing your work). As always, the Author retains full rights, with permission for us to use in our books. We may post on our blog and link it to our Facebook page as a 'freebie' to help promote the books and you as an author.
Submission Guidelines
Because the Peacock Writers group was born in a flurry, we have operated on a fast track with writing and with publishing. Fortunately, our authors and our editorial staff work well under deadlines, but because of this, we have allowed a laxity.
Most publications take six months to edit and a further three months to format and publish. We are asking twelve weeks for the full editing and publishing process.
We have recently released our fourth collection and find it is time to lay down a few guidelines and deadlines to make all of our roles more tenable and to provide our authors the freedom to create, with a minimal amount of boundaries.
Guidelines:
Each year there will be two collections: A Spring/Summer and a Fall/Winter theme. Suggestions for sub theme and name will be welcome from existing authors, posted on the Facebook Peacock group page, and will be voted upon as a whole.
A sign up by authors intending to participate is needed and will be open for sign up before theme and for two weeks after theme is announced. Limitations on word count depend on author participation. More authors will equal fewer words as we attempt to keep the book cost below $25 USD.
Child friendly stories are ones aimed at the young to middle child {ages 6-12} with an assumption of innocence. No suggestive, cruel, or inappropriate material.
We expect the author to do a pre edit of their stories with Final edits done by editorial staff.
Stories will be submitted two weeks prior to final submission. That is, editors need to vet for appropriateness, word count, etc. which will be done quickly and returned with a notation on a 'good to go' or 'give it another look' before we do final edit. Final deadline – all received. Those not returned, first submission will be used for editing.
The deadlines will be fixed because we must utilize our time to ensure our collections go to market on time for maximum exposure.
When accepted as a Peacock, you will be given the email address to send your images and completed document. Upon completion of formatting, each Peacock will receive a pdf of their portion of the book only. This retains the integrity of publishing our books under the peacock banner.
*Authors or editors wishing to join The Peacock Writers group please contact one of the editors. Any story written for the collection can be newly written, or one you have in your line up of stories. You would give us the right to use, in the Peacock collection, to raise money for children’s charities but author retains all rights to the story. No money is given to the author as all net proceeds go to children’s charities. However, you will receive reader awareness for your writing, and you will have the knowledge you have helped a child.
Deadlines:
Spring/Summer: Fall/Winter:
