Stepping Out
From time to time The Peacock Writers get to visit other sites and blogs to talk about what we do. I shall be adding to this list as and when we do. .
The Peacock Writers had been given the ability to spotlight ourselves for a month on Yezall Strongheart's site: http://yezallstrongheart.weebly.com/ Yezall Strongheart has been a big supportor or The Peacock Here is the blog:
Thank you Yezall Strongheart, for inviting The Peacock Writers to your site. It is always exciting to me, when being asked to stop by and talk about our books and our aims for the future.
We all have been composing other stories, books, or articles but have set our stories for children on the front burner twice a year. For slightly less than two and a half years, we’ve produced five collections with the sixth one in progress.
Our first collection caught the eye of the advertising staff on Amazon and without any monetary allowance by our group, promoted our book A Whimsical Holiday for Children. I was lucky to see the ad on my tried and true hang out, Dictionary dot com.
How and why we started, is on our blog at The Peacock Writers. However, I will say I am humbled to be called the chief of this talented and diverse group of individuals. While I may have initiated the call, all that answered and followed through, have become a knitted order of authors wanting to help.
Several of our ladies have risen to the top to become our Production Administrator and the other, our Site Sound, and SEO Administrator. Yes, our goal is to raise money for children and the charities that serve them, but it takes a giving mind to stay the course.
Here in their words is what it means to them to be part of The Peacock Writers and I will then introduce you to our newest members who will be featured alongside some of the ‘old timers’ and regulars.
Linda A. Scott is someone I’ve known for several years, meeting her through another friend. She and I connected because Linda has an excellent vision but needs grammar check. We fell into a relationship of support and came out as friends ~
Fellowship, I am a giver with all things and to contribute short stories and time to help children is a gift that I treasure. It has not been an easy year for me [2012/13] my husband of 21 years has Cancer and the treatments were as miserable as the Cancer itself...
I have always loved to tell stories to my grandchildren, and now I am able to share stories to even more when my tales are added with the Peacock Writers. ~ Linda Scott
Alan Place I met on a book site, and as I enjoyed his prolific storytelling, it was a small step having him join our group. He is one of our biggest boosters, a great guy to know, and to speak with, one on one.
To me, being a Peacock is a great gift because it gives me joy to think that perhaps somewhere, a family can spend a few moments of joy reading our work. I am happiest when I give to others. ~ Alan Place
Penny Copper is a pseudonym for a friend that started out as an opponent in a writing contest. I liked her story, she liked mine. We still are enjoying each other’s writings. There are a myriad of reasons why our Miss Copper shall remain nameless to our public – at least for now.
Writing, to me is a gift. To spin a story, and evoke an emotion is a wonderful thing to be able to do. Writing for children is especially dear to my heart as I have become a grandmother recently. To open their hungry little eyes to magical lands, or help them solve a mystery isn't work by any means.
~ Penny Copper
Barry Carver has a convoluted mind, and because of this he has become my sounding board and editor. He untangled sentences and made parts of my writing flow. He is not a friend of long standing, but he is a fast and reliable friend.
The idea of doing a bit of writing for charity is appealing to me and yet there are certainly more charities than I could have ever hoped to shake an adjective at.
And writing for kids, other than my own, is also a draw but that I don't think I write for kids. Not really. I guess I'm an untended garden sort. Whatever pops up is what there is to dine on, and I'm just glad to have company in that meal. Sometimes it's nutritious and delicious; sometimes it's just something to fill an editor's wastebasket.
I can't stop it from coming out, so if any part of it is appreciated I'll be happy. Surprised and delighted.
~Barry Carver
Chris Clarke and I became friends in a shuffle of administrators on the book site where I run a group for authors who write for children. I took over the group when the originator stood down for medical reasons. Chris stepped into the void when the originator left the group that had been started for the young writers I kicked out of my group because they were young in years but writing stories for adults. Chris truly shows leadership as she does so by example.
As a Peacock Writer, I feel I am able to bring a smile to children's faces the world over.
I feel truly fortunate to be given the opportunity to have my work published and read in many countries.
This is achievable as the Peacock Writers are hugely supportive of each other and are a close-knit team.
~ Chris Clarke
Gwenna D’Young has been one of our greatest driving forces, not only in keeping us utterly legally sound, but our impression selector and publisher. Gwen has a demanding schedule, yet she finds time to create a quality product for the amount of money asked. She has an unerring eye for perfection and all appreciate her presence in our midst.
What does being a Peacock mean to me? Being part of a company giving back to our communities, not just locally, but internationally as members of a caring and supportive human race. Children are innocent and should be cared for with love. If we can make the difference in even one child's life, we would have completed our Mission: to help protect, care, feed and defend those that are the most vulnerable.
~ Gwenna D’ Young
Lenora Rodgers was brought to our attention by Chris Clarke and has quickly become an asset to The Peacock Writers group. Her series is entertaining but carries a message given in love.
It was a humbling honor for me to be asked to join the Peacock Writers, a talented group of authors whose sole purpose for creating the group is to contribute to children's charities. It is an avenue, by which, I can combine the two things I love... Writing children's literature AND giving to a good cause. I will always be grateful for this opportunity. ` Lenora Rodgers
John Hunter Phillips was a gold nugget found in a shared silver thread. When my facebook friend, Maryanne Macomber shares, and I see, I will read. She shares wisdom, kindness, but mostly love. After the tragedy at Sandy Hook, an area John is familiar with from his younger years, John dedicated his song lyrics to the families. I was deeply moved by the words and asked John for his friendship, and for his poem/lyrics for inclusion in our book, Faeries, Pixies, and Dragons, OH My! He not only allowed us the use of his lyrics but included a link to the original song on itunes which is included in the e book version.
I have always loved expressing my inner self to the outer world, and although for most of my life it has been done by means of musical notes, lately the verbal notes have been more forthcoming and fulfilling to me than in the past. In one of my most current projects, "Think of the Children", I am able to weave both modes together, and I declare my thankfulness to the group with the hope that it may help facilitate my aspiration of helping children throughout the world.
Being noticed by, and then invited into the superb collection of writers collectively known as ' The Peacock Writers ' is indeed an honor.
' The sweetest music in the world still comes from children '
John Hunter Phillips
Carolyn Tody I met in the days she called herself Cactus Rose. I always enjoyed her stories and her professionalism in presenting a tale that would be not only entertaining but one without blemish. Her saying, one I agree with, is “Proof until your eyes bleed, and then do it one more time.” Carolyn, as are some of our writers, is also an artist. She coined and designed our Logo for The Peacock Writers.
Being a Peacock Writer means many things to me, including telling youngsters rhyming, word, and picture stories that spread happiness, both by encouraging their creative dreams through imagination, and by contributing to a (hopefully) noble charitable cause.
I very much enjoy being part of a dedicated writing community led by individuals whom I respect and most of whom I have grown fond of over a span of several years. ~ Carolyn Tody
Carol Wills is our ‘go to’ gal in house. If Gwen can’t do it, you can expect Carol can. You want your head straighten out, she can help with that too. I fell in love with Carol’s flash fiction stories. There was always a surprise in her tales. Another attraction to her stories, while short, was always complete. Nobody need tell her, more story is needed. When she answered the call for authors needed, she was there and willing to do a story and Cedric, the Blue Nose Reindeer was born – fitting as Carol is our Brit from the first collection. She is our site Administrator at The Peacock Writers.
Janice Able is in the process of publishing her book, Brass Notes Over Wolf Creek. Her serialized story, Little Horse Wears Antlers, was accompanied by her illustrations. Janice is another author who once you start reading, you seek out any and all stories. No matter the genre, they are well thought out, and an absolute pleasure to read. Janice has been involved in our forums, and once her busy schedule abates, we hope to have her back sharing her joy in stories.
Lazlo Kruger is a writer that enthralls. He too can write in any genre. Being an artist he also sets the tone for his tales with his covers and typeset. We hope to see him back soon too.
Our new ‘kids’ on the block are a mixed bag.
Evelyn Steward has been an online friend for at least five years. I’ve always enjoyed Evelyn’s Dragon Stories and had encouraged her to join us on Bookrix a place for honing ones writing skills, publishing free stories and now also for sale books. I was surprised and pleased when she was invited into the group by another Brit, Alan Place. I had found out beforehand that she already was friends with Carol Wills. The other delightful surprise was finding Evelyn wrote poetry as well as prose and has an expanded edition of her poem readied for our upcoming collection of Snowflakes on My Lashes.
To be a part of The Peacock Writers is good for me because it presents a challenge for me to write stories for children that not only, hopefully, entertain but also, again, hopefully, give a little gentle education, mostly about animals and landscapes where they live. I hope children will like my stories and perhaps learn something they may not otherwise get a chance to find out. Education about this wonderful world we live in is not as all- encompassing as it used to be. ~ Evelyn Steward
When we were looking to gather another story teller for the upcoming collection, I went into our Children’s Authors group. I did not have to go far to get our new member, Linn Reights. Her stories are heartfelt. These are the kind of stories I read as a child and delight in when found in my older years.
I love what you and your lovely writing friends have put together. I love to be a part of The Peacock Writers. I find what you're doing is maybe what I have been praying for (How can I use my gift to help others). I am truly grateful that I have been given the opportunity to work alongside a group of writers that open their hearts and talents to help those in need. Many Blessings to the Peacock Writer's...
When we closed our Facebook page of The Peacock Writers, there were authors that had been invited in but had not participated in either the forums or in writing. I contacted these writers and one responded with a resounding “Yes.”
Carol Murphy Natoli has given us her first contribution in the form of a poem. Thanks Carol for becoming another Peacock Writer.
It is an honor and an opportunity to be working with a group of people from various experiences. Those that are from different walks of life, from different parts of the country some with years of experience, and others with far fewer, come together to collaborate and join forces for the same ultimate purpose; that is, to write, share, and touch others.
Our latest, Snowflakes On My Lashes is currently, December 2013, in the the top 100 books on Amazon.
May the stories flow and the journey continue ~ Paula Shene
